About Mosaics at Heart
After putting aside creative interests for a career in education a well timed redundancy gave me the opportunity to return to some previous loves.
Having worked with a number of media, I came across mosaics almost by accident. I soon discovered it is the perfect media for someone who likes accuracy and detail but also loves finding treasures and recycling and is pretty clumsy!
I get my inspiration and materials from all around me especially from other peoples rubbish! My work ranges from quite detailed and intricate still life style images to more extravagant 3D pieces reflecting my desire to express both sides of my personality. I use a wide range of materials from traditional glass tesserae to china and found objects.
I produce a few regular designs including ‘teacup’ mirrors, hearts and stars, union jacks and flower pictures as well as working on commissions. I specialise in personalised pieces including names, dates etc which are ideal for special occasion gifts for example birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.
Being an experienced teacher, I also work on larger mural projects with schools and community groups and run workshops and regular classes.
